Nichols Gets a New Art Room

I used acrylic paints to paint a few artsy designs above our sink area.
I wanted to brighten up the walls some and make it more colorful.

I made this sign for the front of my door using scrapbook paper
and an ellison machine. It was super easy and added a bit of creative
color to the front door.
This is the new helper system. Each table in the room was given a color
name and which ever color card is showing each day in art is the helper
table for that day. So if the red card is showing the people sitting at the red
table will be handing out and picking up supplies and making sure the
containers are orgnized. This is a good way to ensure each child
gets to help at some point during the year.
This may not seem like a big deal, but after teaching art for three years without
a dry erase board, I was so happy to finally get one. This will make things
so much easier this year. I went out and bought some new coloful
dry earse markers to go with it.

I painted each door on the back cabinets a different color. This added color to
that area and made it brighter and fun.
The fire exit door got an optical illusion painted on it using black
acrylic paint. This is lots of fun.
I used bulletin board paper and boarder to create framed areas on the back
corner wall. I used these framed spots to post important teacher papers.
I also posted a cool crayola box poster and colors. This was given to me
by one of the parents at school.

This is a view of the front of the room, the teaching area. I painted my
bulletin board red and added new border. I also added new poters along the
top and framed them out in colorful bulletin boarder. I think it looks great!!
New behavior plan. I created this new behavior chart and hung it on the back of
the door for this year. Each class will earn a green, yellow or red square for the
day, depending on behavior. At the end of the year the class with the most green
squares will get a suprise.

Choice time center. I created this are from a bookshelf that was given
to me by a friend. I covered the top and shelves in coloful contact paper. This
area was created for students who finsish work early, they can choose something from
this area to work on and stay busy. Some of the things I included are
play dough, puzzles, how to draw books and tanagrams.
I added framed out sections to this old cabinet to brighten it up. I would eventually
like to paint it.
I added contact paper to the desk drawers and painted the desk.
I added some art to the side back wall. It is framed ocean themed art.
I painted the front of the desk and added cork squares to the front area.
Things can now be pinned to this area and its not wasted space.
I would like to WELCOME all of my students and parents back for another wonderful year of creating !!!!! I am so very excited to have all of you in my life and to have the most wonderful students to teach each day. I hope you enjoy the works of art that are posted throughout this school year. Remember each and every child will have at least one, possibly more works of art displayed on this blog before the school year ends. Be looking for your childs creative work of art. Once again welcome back and happy creating !!
